Rangers to make January bid for EPL club captain; reports

As most Rangers fans and their dog now knows, the interest in bringing another of the ‘deserters’ (is that even allowed to be used any more) is intensifying with the number of media reports pertaining to Southampton’s Steven Davis.

A fringe player these days at St Mary’s, press reports suggest Steven Gerrard is seriously interested in the former Ibrox captain, and the 33-year old Northern Ireland international left, like all of them in 2012, under the worst cloud, but was seen differently to his colleagues as Rangers did manage to secure a transfer fee of around £800,000 for his services.

Admittedly, this wasn’t quite the act of selfless altruism on Davis’ part (a lot of fans claim he ‘ensured Rangers got a fee’) as the former Fulham man was only too glad to get away from the trauma at Ibrox and didn’t want the switch to England ‘dragging on’ and to save then-CEO Charles Green taking the situation to court Southampton paid the money and moved on.

However, like the others, he does regret the manner of how it all happened and with Rangers perhaps a little thin in creative midfield (only really Graham Dorrans and Ovie Ejaria are options presently) Davis could well be a useful addition this January.

Out of contract next summer, the ex-captain would probably not cost much if anything at all, and most fans seem keen on his possible return.

If it does materialise, he would be the third returning player, and if information on Steven Naismith is accurate, the latest.

Do you want Rangers to re-sign Steven Davis?
