Rangers given a potentially massive 40,000 boost

Rangers are set to be boosted at Hampden for today’s League Cup semi with a potential crowd of up to 40,000 fans in, red, blue and white, after Aberdeen supporters failed to sell out their full original allocation of 15,000, itself a comical drop from the initial demand of 23,000, and it has been confirmed there will be little over 10,000 Dons fans in Mount Florida to see their men face Rangers in the crunch match.

The whole thing adds up to a wild embarrassment for Stewart Milne and Derek McInnes, following the need to beg supporters to even get to five figures, and while we can’t know exactly what has happened with those spare 10,000 tickets, it is not unreasonable to assume Rangers supporters may just fill Hampden up like a home match.

It all means Rangers will have a massive backing in Glasgow’s south side, and with Aberdeen’s form as atrocious as it currently is Steven Gerrard’s men have the momentum to get a huge result and make yet another cup final.

But complacency is dangerous and we know McInnes’ men will raise their game for us as they always do.

But up to 40,000 fans should help.
