Massive injury blow for star summer signing?

Rangers could have a serious problem on their hands as Croatian media have reported star left back Borna Barisic has sustained an apparent muscle rupture and such injuries can be season-enders.

The fullback was mysteriously absent yesterday from Steven Gerrard’s match-day squad, and we have no details yet on the accuracy of this report, but national team manager Zlatko Dalic has been quoted as saying the ‘situation is not good’ amidst the Rangers defender’s call up for the upcoming international break.

It’s a bit of a blow to say the least for Steven Gerrard, given Barisic was a marquee summer signing and the clear first choice in his position, as well has producing an excellent display for his country recently against Portugal, but this injury could seriously affect thinking and leave Jon Flanagan the clear first (only?) choice for left back for the foreseeable future.

Coupled onto the unknown status of Albanian winger Eros Grezda and currently it’s looking like a wasted £4M, even if it’s no one’s fault.

We hope for a speedy recovery for both, but a ‘muscle rupture’ doesn’t sound promising.

Hopefully it’s just a minor affliction which is only short term.
