Is Steven Gerrard about to make fan-pleasing call on frozen out 21-year old?

With a number of potential injuries befalling Steven Gerrard’s men, plus the absence of blocked Kyle Lafferty, Stevie’s squad is going to be stretched a little and we may find some previously frozen-out players have significant roles this Sunday.

While the defensive four is unlikely to change much, midfield could well see dramatic returns for Graham Dorrans and Jordan Rossiter. With Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack seemingly struggling, Dorrans and Rossiter’s returns to fitness (both were at training on the return) is a welcome boost for Gerrard and even if they don’t start, they are certainly likely to be on the bench.

Midfield options are a little thin – McCrorie, Halliday and Ejaria were the main recognised midfield regulars at Auchenhowie, and while it’s feasible all three could start, there are also doubts over Lassana Coulibaly as well who did not make training following his travels with Mali the past two weeks.

Hamilton and their dodgy pitch is notorious, and we highly doubt Stevie will want to risk either Dorrans or Rossiter from the start on such a surface, but equally there’s three of these grounds in the SPL and that’s a minimum of six matches in a season to rule a lot of players out of on such concerns.

But then similarly Gerrard was very clear that he wanted Lee Wallace in the match day squad at Fir Park to ‘experience first team football and atmosphere’ again, so it would be prudent to line up at least one of them on the bench even if there’s minimal intention of using them.

We’ll see come Sunday if Stevie calls on either.
