“Rangers lost credibilty” – star signing speaks out

In a wide ranging interview, Rangers’ Croatian left back Borna Barisic has claimed the club lost credibility in the lower leagues, but has praised manager Steven Gerrard for his influence.

The former Osijek man is away on international duty with his country, which in itself is amazing credibility for Rangers to see our top stars play for the world cup finalists, but spared a moment to speak to his national press and extoll the virtues of Gerrard and his ability to restore Rangers’ credibility.

He said:

“I think he has changed the attitude toward Rangers, who have lost some credibility in Scottish football down in the third division and their return to the Premier League. However, Gerrard’s arrival has changed this for the better. It seems to us that he is looking at us altogether with independent eyes.”

There is no denying that while Sunday’s Old Firm was a bitter pill to swallow, and reminds us there’s still work to be done, Gerrard’s overall start has certainly exceeded expectations, particularly in Europe.

And Barisic certainly makes a valid point that Rangers’ influence and credibility in Scottish football weaned over the past few years. Whether Gerrard will indeed completely restore the Rangers we expect remains to be seen, but the fledgling signs are promising.
