Alfredo Morelos & Moussa Dembele

If the pundits are to be believed, our eastern chums had a diabolical transfer window while our own was outstanding.

Quite frankly we can’t disagree with the latter and Boyata’s behaviour (hard to escape the column inches filled with it) along with the departure of Dembele probably backs up the former – albeit we only really follow Rangers so anything else is over our heads.

But that said it is intriguing to look at the subplot leading up to the Old Firm clash tomorrow – when Rangers were originally linked with Alfredo Morelos, we at Ibrox Noise suggested we may have found our Dembele – aka a hidden gem snapped up on a song who would become incredibly valuable.

Very similar strikers indeed – tonnes of ability, maybe questionable attitudes but game changers.

And the soap operas surrounding both last window were quite the watch and thoroughly compelling.

However, they have ended very differently – while one of the players was on social media melting down and making it clear he didn’t want to be in ‘paradise’ any more while deciding also not to bother with training, the other one buckled down and got on with the job of playing for his club (silly bookings notwithstanding) as his club rejected reported £3.75M then £7M+ bids from a clutch of clubs for his services.

Steven Gerrard frequently stated he had no interest in selling the Colombian international who goes from strength to strength, while his opposite number tried to claim the same thing about his boy but changed his mind at the last minute.

Gerrard made a sage point – no one could replace Morelos, not at this hour. And surely his adversary at the East End felt the same about his lad, and yet sold him anyway.

It makes for an intriguing plotline going into Sunday – Celtic simply couldn’t hold onto their best player, while Rangers rejected millions for theirs.

The pundits say Celtic are much weaker for this window (they couldn’t even do anything with the money they made from him), while Rangers are much stronger.

It’s hard to argue with much of that. But the proof of the pudding of Rangers’ progression and Celtic’s regression will be on the pitch tomorrow early afternoon.
