Sensational return for previous Rangers target could be back on after dramatic development…

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard may forced into emergency use of the transfer market following the bleak prognosis for winger Jamie Murphy.

The 28-year old flying machine suffered a serious injury during yesterday’s cup clash with Kilmarnock on Rugby Park’s appalling surface, with confirmation of ligament damage and a potentially lengthy spell on the sidelines for the ex-Brighton man.

As such, Rangers’ options on the flank have dramatically thinned – only Ryan Kent and Daniel Candeias remain of the established first team, with Glenn Middleton as yet not deemed ready to start frequently.

With a system reliant on two wingers, Gerrard now has a real problem – and the only solution is to bring in another first-team senior player ready for immediate action.

Whether this would be a cheap permanent deal or a loan signing is unclear, but with his regular winger now likely unavailable for an indeterminate period of time, Gerrard must use all his contacts in football to secure someone before the window shuts in eleven days, and that could well see a shock return to interest in Killie’s Jordan Jones.

Already in a pickle following the (as yet unconfirmed) loss of Graham Dorrans till next year, Gerrard finds himself lacking quality attackers to say the least – Ryan Kent as yet has failed to completely impress, and Daniel Candeias has been in and out of the team. Middleton, as yet, has not received the call.

Jones would only set Rangers back the bulk of a million, and he would give Rangers four decent options for the wings and Gerrard the strength in depth he needs.
