Sky Sources: “Gerrard must increase multimillion pound bid”

Sky Sources have today confirmed Rangers’ £3M bid for Jake Cooper, but have revealed Steven Gerrard will have to increase his offer if he is to secure the promising 23-year old Millwall centre back.

The substantial bid was first revealed yesterday by Football Insider, and other media groups backed it up, and now Sky Sources’ information is it’s not enough and the Den side seek considerably more for their prize asset and won’t let him go for anything they deem below his true value.

There is speculation from ThisIsFutbol that Rangers may be able to trigger a release clause, but we have no information to back this claim.

Rangers have spent circa £5.5M in total this window but may have to double that in a one off if they are to come close to persuading Millwall to sell, with a potential £5M price tag likely to be more in the region of what the Championship side seek if not dependent on a release clause.

An eight-place finish for Neil Harris’s men is likely to be bettered this time around, and the Lions will seek a real push at a promotion lunge, and players like Cooper will help that happen, so if Rangers are to secure him, without a guaranteed release clause, the £3M bid must be nearly doubled.

The question is whether Steven Gerrard wants the England youth international enough to sanction such a sum.
