Has Steven Gerrard made the right call on attacker?

 Article by: Richard

Gerrard made a very shrewd decision whether
to re-sign Ryan Hardie or not. He was not totally convinced that he was the
right striker to lead his new side. So he came up with this no lose arrangement
with a happy Rangers supporter player, whilst also pleasing Livingston F C.
He decided that Rangers should contract their
21-year-old striker on a new 1-year-deal. He is 6’ 2” and has enough potential
to eventually make the Rangers first team team, just not this season.
This clever manoeuvre was concluded when
newly-promoted Livi made it known that they wanted him for a season-long-loan.
This is a no brainer decision for the Ibrox
club, as Livi will pay his wages and play him in their first team as often as
possible. In this extremely competitive league, Hardie will gain invaluable SPL
experience and should help his new side to more than just survive.
It’s a move that should benefit both clubs,
especially if he plays well for them and scores enough times to elevate his
status as a top quality striker. It could turn him into a forward worth paying
good transfer money for his services.
He has played for all the young Scotland
teams from U16’s, U17’s, U18’s U19’s, U20’s and also the U21’s, so obviously he
has consistently proven his talent at youth international level.
In 2014 he played in 13 Rangers games and
scored 2 goals as a young 17-year-old. In 2016 he was loaned to Raith Rovers on
a 4-month-deal, playing in 10 games and scoring 6 times.
In 2016 when he was only 19, he was loaned to
St Mirren and featured in 16 games and scored 3 goals, and in 2017 he returned
back on loan to Raith Rovers. In 18 games he scored 6 times.
In 2018, during a happy 4-month-loan-deal
with Livingston, he scored 8 goals in only14
games league games.
According to
Livi, Rangers have been terrific and very supportive of Ryan returning, so it’s
a win-win for both parties. Hardie, to be fair, has always said he would love
to reunite with them.
Failure to impress at Livi would probably convince
Rangers that he is still not ready to play his football at Ibrox, but it would
give the management another year to decide.
Hardie has nothing but high praise for his
time at Livi, and they have returned the compliment by welcoming his goal
scoring talent back to the Tony Macaroni Arena for this very important season
in the SPL.
We will all watch his progress with interest.
