Deal almost done – summer Ibrox exodus continues as another departure looms…

The worst-kept secret has been confirmed today with Jason Holt, having missed training and the trip to Spain, undergoing negotiations to leave Rangers on a permanent basis.

The 25-year old midfield terrier is working a move to Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town, and the deal could be sown up pretty soon given Rangers’ demands are likely to be modest for a player who only cost £29,000 in 2015.

Holt is said to be keen to link up again with Barton, albeit under him this time rather than alongside him, at the midtable League One side who, with Barton in tow, are looking at a bit of a promotion push this season.

Holt has been told by new manager Steven Gerrard that he’s not part of his plans, and the dynamo has swiftly got on with finding a new club, without too much ceremony.

It’ll be quite the culture shock for the ex-Hearts man, going from 51,000 every other week at Ibrox to the more modest 5K surroundings of Highbury, but assuming the deal does go through, and no reason why it won’t, we truly wish him the best of luck and know most fans feel the same.

One a Ranger always a Ranger. Well, except in Michael O’Halloran’s case… (!)
