Rangers working on £7M bids for multiple defenders

If recent information is anything to go by, Rangers have submitted a third and final bid for Brighton’s Connor Goldson, with Albion said to be looking for a total package of around £3M.

Rangers are unlikely to meet that fully for a player who has not been part of their first team recently (only made three league appearances last season), but the hopes are Brighton will compromise on the value and sell for a little less, especially given the market value is circa £1M.

Meanwhile Rangers continue to be heavily linked with a move for Swansea’s Kyle Bartley, in essentially two transfer deals that would please a great number of Rangers fans.

For his part Bartley is valued in the range of £4M at the Swans, and has developed a great deal since his Rangers/Arsenal days as a youth, albeit it is worth noting the 27-year old has failed to hold anything like a first team place down at EPL Swansea, either not being in favour or being injured.

He found more success in the Championship, where a fellow rival for his signature, Leeds, enjoyed his services on loan in recent times.

So if Rangers bid for him too, we could be looking at a-near £7M submission for the pair.

Nevertheless, following the failure on Martin Skrtel, these two are prime candidates along with West Ham’s James Collins (who would be a free) as potential defensive signings for new manager Steven Gerrard.

It is good to see so many big strong defenders being linked with Rangers after the calamities of rearguard signings in recent years.
