Rangers defender drops bizarre hint about team mate

Lee Wallace has today dropped a big hint about team mate Lee Hodson, suggesting he is viewed now as a left back, despite being a right back by trade.

The Northern Ireland international has had a mixed time of it at Ibrox, with some good displays at RB while struggling badly on the opposite flank, so it seems odd that Wallace would confirm Rangers appear to only see him as a left back selection.

He said:

“The two full-backs have done a great job in their own way, although they are obviously different in how they operate. I’m different in how I operate, just as Lee Hodson is too. So there is a good array of attributes there to be used in that position if and when needed.”

There are of course two possible ways to interpret this admittedly ambiguous comment; he could just be referring generally to the full back slots on both sides, as he appears to at the beginning, but then the other is where he says ‘that position’ following the mention of Hodson as a competitor to himself.

That implies both he and Hodson are vying for the left back berth, and as we know, Hodson is poor there.

But that said, injury aside, no one is shifting James Tavernier from the other flank and we cannot see Declan John being dropped either.

The quotes from Wallace the past few days have not really been overly inspired. After castigating the development squad he sounds a little sour at the fact he has lost his place in the first team – which, in all fairness, is understandable.
