Rangers and Birmingham battle it out over Man Utd legend’s son

Rangers and Birmingham look ready to battle it out for the signature of former Manchester United legend Andy Cole’s son Devante.

The 22-year old striker has been in fine form for Jamie Vardy’s old stomping ground in Fleetwood, and this has more than attracted attention from the big guns.

Rangers are looking to massively enhance their striking options, with Alfredo Morelos currently the only real striker of any gravity on the books at Ibrox, and with a bid being considered for Nottingham Forest’s Jason Cummings, this 12 goals in 30 matches striker is seventh best in England’s League One with just under a goal every two matches.

He is considered as being about potential, and with his contract expiring this summer he certainly would not cost the earth, and also has seven goals for England in 17 appearances at youth level.

Cole considers himself a more mobile kind of striker than his father, saying:

“I am different in a lot of ways – I like to play down the centre and peel out wide a bit, getting involved out there and drifting back in. I like to drift a lot more, while my dad was straight down the centre.”

If Rangers fend off the competition and he turns out half as good as Andy was, this will have been a shrewd acquisition.

Update 15:40: Everyone at Ibrox Noise would like to send our thoughts and prayers to Nacho Novo, who is currently in hospital battling a heart attack. We wish him a speedy recovery.
