Jason Cummings

When Jason Cummings was first linked with a move to Rangers last summer, it was seen as a pie in the sky idea. After all, Hibs refuse to do business with Rangers (except to take our sloppy unwanteds) and would not only have charged an idiotic fee for the striker, but clearly were too festered in petty hate to consider the idea anyway.

After all, Scott Allan.

Indeed, in recent years, Rangers fans have got used to rival SPL clubs simply refusing to do business with us, or charging excessive fees. Ryan Jack was a piece of luck, with the midfielder being out of contract – Aberdeen would never have sold him to Rangers.

So we have got used to losing out on all the players we wanted – Allan, Lewis Morgan, Louis Moult – all these guys have either gone to Celtic or England, and Rangers were left with Eduardo Herrera.

Jason Cummings is a player we wanted. He was devastating for Hibs in the Championship, scoring against us for fun. As much as we hated him, we respected his ability. There is no doubt he was the best striker in the Championship bar none, including anything we had.

He is the kind of player SPL clubs would never sell to us, only to Celtic. Therefore is there any coincidence we finally secure him only when Hibs themselves sell him to an English side?

English teams happily do business with us. There might be a bit of debate over the fee, but we regularly buy, loan and sell from teams down south – Graham Dorrans, Barrie McKay, Jason Cummings, Russell Martin – the list is endless.

And thanks to those circumstances we finally have a player we have wanted for many seasons. While some fans hated him, and gave him dog’s abuse as a Hibee, slurring him with in place some frankly below the belt nonsense, he answered it with goals.

There is no better way to make rival fans hate you more than by scoring goals and making assists against them.

And while it is a bold claim, outwith Celtic’s forwards, Rangers now, in our humble opinion, with Morelos and Cummings, have by far the best attack line in Scotland.

We are thrilled this did not turn into another Scott Allan. We are thrilled we got Cummings, assuming all the t’s are scored and i’s are dotted.

And we honestly feel he is the best signing Rangers have made since 2012.
