Emerson Hyndman

Few could complain from a Rangers persuasion about this January window so far. Sure, all the signings have been loans, Declan John aside, but after wasting £10M last summer, we are not sure loans are such a bad thing. In most cases, if they impress, the deal includes a purchase clause this summer.

However, when a certain red top rag linked us with a return to Bournemouth’s Emerson Hyndman, our heart sank.

Hyndman simply did not cut it at Ibrox last season. He had a few half decent matches early on, notably that fine display at Fir Park where even we bought into him, but thereafter he just made no impression at all and we were not at all disappointed at his departure.

So, frankly, we are really hoping said red top has called this one totally wrong.

The lad has never made a single appearance for Bournemouth in the league, having been there since summer 2016, and that says it all for the regard they hold him in.

This is not to say he is a horrendous player – he is not as bad as that. He just does not suit British football – in the SPL, especially in the Old Firm matches, he found the pace, as the Hispanics have done, passing him by.

A decent touch, yes, and capable of a goal or two up here, but absolutely not an inspirational player and not one we really need or want.

Some point out he won the club’s young player of the year. Well, this is a club who gave player of the year to Haris Vuckic under exactly the same six-month loan circumstances not that long ago so we are unsure how much regard we hold said accomplishment in.

Nevertheless, we have been extremely happy with all the business we have done; but we cannot add any desire to retrieve Hyndman to that.
