Premiership duo linked with summer move to Ibrox

Rangers have this evening reportedly been linked with a summer swoop for Hamilton Accies’ duo Ali Crawford and Michael McGovern.

Crawford, a 24-year old central midfielder, signed an extended four-year deal at New Douglas Park in 2014, contracting him to Martin Canning’s side till summer of 2018, meaning if Mark Warburton is indeed interested in bringing the engine room player to Ibrox, he will have to fork out a fee. But given Rangers managed a sizeable one for fellow Premiership signing Michael O’Halloran from St Johnstone, this should not prove to be too huge an issue.

On the other hand, his team mate, goalie McGovern, is out of contract this summer and would be a free, but the story connecting him with a move to Govan is puzzling given Rangers have three goalkeepers already on their books. However, the speculated interest in the stopper does suggest Maciej Gostomski’s time at Ibrox has been a busted flush, with the Polish number one absent from match day squads entirely, with one-time Scottish cap Cammy Bell taking his place.

McGovern is a Northern Irish international, however, and would be a lucrative signing on a Bosman, with the possibility of Warburton shuffling his pack somewhat this summer in lieu of an assault on the Premiership.

We shall see.
