Rangers invite former Newcastle star to train

According to the Daily Mail, former Newcastle United midfielder Kevin Nolan has been invited by Mark Warburton to trial/train at Rangers.

Nolan, a free agent, supposedly has offers on the table from a variety of suitors, including continental outfits, but the Rangers interest comes as something of a surprise and the ex-West Ham & Bolton playmaker would be a left-field addition to Rangers’ squad, given his age and Warbs’ predilection for younger players.

But at his peak he was certainly a productive player having plied his trade at the top of English football and being far from shy of chipping in with a goal or two.

With January’s window fast approaching, Mark Warburton is seriously starting to ramp up enquiries to further enhance an already solid-looking squad.

Fans will nevertheless hope that a defensive midfielder, striker and some depth in defence can be sought in a couple of months too. Furthermore, whether Nolan accepts the supposed invitation is another matter in itself.

NB: Mark Warburton today confirmed this story, sourced from the Daily Mail, is utterly untrue.
