Rangers forward’s confession about Petrofac Cup

Martyn Waghorn has admitted that winning the Petrofac Cup would be a milestone in his career, given he has never picked up any silverware before.

The striker’s critical last-gasp header won the day on Saturday much to the delight of all and sundry, but looking ahead to Tuesday’s quarter final at Ibrox v Livingston, the 15-goal man conceded that while there were still three more matches to win, nailing the Petrofac Cup would be a special occasion.

He said:

“We want to go as far as we can in any Cup tournament and with it being the quarter-finals the boys will be putting it all in to go as far as we can.”

And added the importance to him personally as well:

“I have never won a trophy before in my career so I will be going out there to win and get us through to the next round.”

Football is of course all about winning, and the chief reason any player wants to play is success and trophies. With that absent from his career thus far, Waghorn would love to correct it in his first season at Ibrox.
