Mark Warburton: “Rangers are not a hard sell”
Rangers manager Mark Warburton
has carried out a slight u-turn over comments he made after signing up himself
at Rangers.
On the 22nd of last
month Warburton admitted the Scottish Championship is a hard sell, when he
addressed the issue of trying to persuade players to join his ranks at Ibrox:
“The obvious negative I will throw at you is
Scottish Championship football – but the benefits here far outweigh that.”
In other words, Rangers’ position
in the second tier of Scottish football is a real Achilles heel to attempts of
persuading players to sign up.
However, he has now clarified the
situation and rather reversed the implication. Asked whether or not he felt
Rangers being in the Championship had affected recruitment, he said:
“No, not at all. People always ask that
question and understandably so. But the facts of the matter is if you look at Murray Park,
you walk around Ibrox then you’re sold Rangers Football Club. It’s as simple as
that.”
With the likes of Halliday,
Kiernan, Wilson, Thompson and Foderingham already on board, it seems his update
is more accurate than the original comment.
