Dave King: “We want an SPL Rangers immediately”

Dave King has reiterated his
earlier stance from some weeks ago that his transfer policy for this summer
window will prioritise the signatures of almost ten players who are SPL
quality.
With the eleven out-of-contract
players gone, King has confirmed Rangers’ approach will be to sign around seven
players immediately capable of playing at a higher level than the Championship,
unlike the squad who have now departed Govan.

He said:
“The mandate to the manager is going to be
to try and add probably six or seven quality players who are capable of playing
immediately in the Premiership.”
Whether these players will
include those currently plying their trade in Scotland’s top flight, or those
who have been released from teams like St Mirren (a move for Gregg Wylde is not
impossible) or to nab some of Hearts’ ex-players (Danny Wilson is now a free
agent), the chairman clearly believes the way forward is bringing in players of
a distinctly higher grade than those who left.
He continued:
“What we are not going to do is make a
decision based on winning the Championship this season. Every single investment
decision will be what we regard as being Premiership quality players. So it is
very important that we not only get comfortably get through the Championship
this season, but that we have a squad of players at the end of the season that
can be further augmented in the next close season to make sure we go up to the
Premiership with a squad capable of competing.”
With half the first-team squad
now gone, and the remaining half barely any more impressive in recent
months/years, the search is on to rebuild the squad into something far more
like Rangers quality than what currently is on offer.
