Boyd: “McCall won’t make any difference to us”

Kris Boyd has claimed Rangers’ new manager Stuart McCall is
essentially powerless and will make no difference to the side’s fortunes.
In a controversial interview, Boyd remarked that Jose
Mourinho himself could not make this Rangers side successful and that only the
players can make it better.
“We’re now on our third manager and it gets to the stage where you have
to ask questions of the players, it doesn’t matter if you were to go and bring
in Jose Mourinho – he would still have the same players to deal with.”

Boyd has been praised for brutally honest assessments of his own
failure to succeed at Ibrox second time around rather than passing the buck
elsewhere, but this latest diatribe is sure to raise eyebrows from all
connected with Rangers, not least McCall himself.
Boyd continued:
“Sometimes it can help when a new manager arrives and is looking at it
from a different angle – a fresh eye. But, ultimately, it’s the same players
going out on the pitch and if we’re being brutally honest, it’s us who need to
get a grip.”
If Boyd is trying to lift pressure from McCall it is a noble
way of doing so, but it does also potentially send out a disquieting message that he
has no faith in the manager to instil anything new in the players.
