It may only be October, but January’s transfer window is very much in the sights of clubs. Ibrox Noise understands that three clubs are monitoring Olwethu Makhanya. The South African’s outstanding displays for Rangers have not gone unnoticed, while his impressive performances for South Africa during the international break have only increased the attention. Olwethu Makhanya transfer interest is therefore beginning to emerge ahead of January.

Olwethu Makhanya transfer interest grows

Unlike some of his Rangers colleagues, Makhanya’s matches have been competitive, with AFCON action the name of the day. Qualification for next summer’s tournament is now extremely prominent. The South African, who has become a prominent star for his country as well as Rangers, is consequently on the radar of several European sides.

Ibrox Noise’s information is that at least one of those clubs is a Premier League team. However, we do not have the names of any of the three clubs currently monitoring his progress. The problem for Rangers, of course, is that Makhanya will become a wanted man if he maintains this level of performance.

Rangers defender Makhanya transfer interest

Makhanya has been, without any shadow of a doubt, the best Scottish Premiership defender since Cameron Carter Vickers. His solid defending, composure on the ball, excellent use of possession and effortless general all round play have caught the eye of a significant number of teams. Therefore, the growing Olwethu Makhanya transfer interest comes as little surprise.

While he would be very happy to remain in Govan for the foreseeable future, Rangers are veering towards next summer. If the South African international, who shone again for his country during the international break, continues on this path, Rangers are very likely to reject any approaches in January. However, next summer could become another matter.

Premier League club monitoring Makhanya amid interest

The former Philadelphia Union man has risen significantly to prominence since his move to Rangers. As we say, at least one Premier League team is monitoring his progress. Rangers are almost certainly safe for now unless something dramatic happens in January and a significant bid (well over the reported £13M) arrives.

However, the monitoring of his situation should surprise nobody given his displays. Rangers fans will not want to lose their outstanding defender any time soon. Unfortunately, given the position the club are in, losing your best assets eventually becomes sadly inevitable.

Rangers can expect significant Makhanya transfer bid

Nevertheless, Makhanya will happily continue doing what he is doing for Rangers and his country. Rangers fans can certainly expect that, if and when a bid arrives, it will take a significantly huge offer for the club to consider selling.

The Olwethu Makhanya transfer interest will therefore be one to watch as January’s window approaches. We will have more on that one in due course, but for now he is a Ranger and he will be staying.
