Rangers fans are this lunchtime stunned at the latest developments over Nico Raskin.
Just as Ibrox Noise was going to press that his options were running out, suddenly one of those options struck a deal.
Nico Raskin appears to be headed to Turkey in sheer desperation to get away from Ibrox.
A deal has been agreed with the club and the player by Istanbul giants Besiktas, a far cry from the top five league Raskin had been expecting.
Big Issue
Alas the big issue now for Rangers fans is the ambiguity over the terms of the transfer.
It is unclear if it is a permanent sale, or staggeringly, a loan.
Raskin’s contract is said to run out in 2028, and he will not be signing a new one.
There had been reports he had activated a year extension. Transfermarkt data backs that up, but it took a long time to do so and no club announcement ever confirmed.
For all we know his deal runs out in 2027 after all. But either way, he won’t be a Rangers player much longer.
We’re trying to keep up to date with this story because it’s unfolding per minute. And the latest is there’s a snag in the agreement now.
Claim
That claim is that it was all agreed between all three parties, only for Rangers to change the terms of the agreement.
That Raskin is taking Besiktas does show how absolutely desperate he is to get out of Ibrox, given the track record of Turkey and Turkish clubs.
And the latest LATEST is it is indeed a loan. This is just completely staggering news for Rangers fans, that their ‘best’ player is going to go out on loan.
This is all on Raskin, incidentally. It was all on him with Russell Martin as well, but we guess the club will get blamed for this one.
That said, it is an utter mess and we understand it’s a loan with option to buy. Rangers fans stunned for sure.
We’re trying to keep up to speed on this one but it’s not easy!
