The same fans who were saying during preseason, “Judge on Friday,” are now saying, “It’s only one game, FFS.” Put simply, Rangers fans were being extremely optimistic during the summer. Ibrox Noise did not share the same optimism. We love Del, we’re happy with some of the new signings and we feel more like the club we want to be. However, we knew that things still weren’t up to standard. And Rangers fan reaction is predictable in places.
The signings raised concerns
The signings coming in did not exactly fill us with utter joy. We were pretty vocal in saying that, while we liked Ross McCrorie, he wasn’t exactly a game changer. The same applied to Ivor Pandur. Cammy Devlin looked good on paper, and in preseason but really drowned at Tannadice, to say the least. Ultimately, fans were yelling saying ‘wait till the real stuff starts ffs’.
Obviously, those fans now say, “It’s only one match, ffs.” They will always dismiss everything that they dislike, or that other fans dislike. They will always dismiss the evidence regardless. However, the majority of fans are being extremely honest this morning. This was not good enough.
Rangers produced more of the same
Dundee United have been a bit of a thorn in Rangers’ side in recent seasons. There’s no question about that. However, this was a whole new regime and a whole new manager. The tactics were meant to be different and the squad is notably different as well. Yet it was exactly the same as before.
Our question will certainly sit with a little touch on the recruitment team. We will have that in a separate piece. However, some fans will keep defending anything that doesn’t go well by justifying it and shifting the goalposts at all times. That is what they will always do. They always have, they did it under every previous manager and they will continue to do so.
Questions must be asked
At the end of the day, we have the manager we wanted and the regime we wanted. Changes are also being made. However, this doesn’t alter the fact that we are Rangers fans and we will always want our team to win. We will always demand that.
When it falls as short as it did last night, questions have to be asked of the manager and players. This was an all round collective failure, for sure.
Only one match
At the end of the day, it is only one match, of course. We will not deny that fact. Rangers fan reaction goes along with it.
We have a whole season of disappointment to wait for instead!
