Derek McInnes has apologised and admitted that he should not have stormed the pitch at full time. Ibrox Noise was happy to see that our manager cares and has the passion to win for Rangers. He wants to see the club win and nothing else. At the same time, seeing the manager storming the pitch and remonstrating with the referee was an unedifying sight. And Derek McInnes admits mistake in that.
Rangers were not good enough
Whether the decision was right or wrong, the result was not unfair. The simple fact is that Rangers were not good enough. McInnes is already feeling the heat a little bit as Rangers manager.
He said:
“Yeah, I was thinking that. I spoke to the referee and said that I shouldn’t have approached him on the pitch. I don’t know. It just looked like a corner, even from the player’s reaction. But I shouldn’t have approached the ref on the pitch; I should’ve approached him in the referee room as I did do at the end.”
We love him and we want him to succeed. We want to see our manager shine and we want to see him shine in the right way.
However, McInnes is experiencing a whole new world now. He knows where Rangers are, he knows the responsibility and he knows the pressure. Of course, it is one thing knowing it and another thing living it.
The world of being Rangers manager is completely different from simply being aware of the pressures that it entails.
A baptism of fire
McInnes is now in the hot seat for the first time. He experienced a baptism of fire at Tannadice. He got pretty much the whole thing wrong, from the tactics to the selection. The result pretty much reflected that.
Storming onto the pitch showed his own personal frustration at his mistakes. It also showed him remonstrating angrily with the officials, who clearly may or may not have made a mistake.
However, that is going to happen throughout the season. Referees always get things wrong, especially in incompetent Scotland, where the referees are absolutely horrendous.
At the end of the day, though, the result was not inaccurate.
McInnes must find solutions
McInnes must figure out very quickly how to turn the squad he has into Scottish title contenders. That will not be easy to figure out, especially with the low standard of the current squad.
Indeed, many fans are already wondering if Rangers can even finish second in their current state. Celtic have clearly upped the ante and started signing big. Rangers are nowhere near that yet and simply have not delivered in the transfer window.
Rangers passion will earn support
McInnes himself will hope for better. However, he must remember to control himself and avoid getting as caught up in Rangers as he did last night. Derek McInnes admits mistake here.
That said, of course, we are glad that we at least have a Rangers man who wants to win. That will always get our support.
