As many Rangers fans now know, the club made a move towards Scotland defender Scott McKenna, but a deal couldn’t be struck with Dynamo Zagreb. And Rangers fans react to Scott McKenna arriving.

It’s understood Rangers wanted him on loan, but the Croatians demanded the sale or nothing, and the club backed out. At least, that’s depending on who you ask.

But ultimately Rangers ended up with no one. Ignore reports that Makhanya came instead, he’s a righty. Different aspect of defence.

So what do Rangers fans make of this?

Well social media isn’t mixed at all. We didn’t carry a poll out, but around 90% of comments on this topic despised McKenna and he was the last player the fans wanted.

Same fans also initially decried Ryan Porteous and Lewis Ferguson, of course.

Crucially, Derek McInnes DID want McKenna.

Let’s look at the boy’s CV:

A couple of Champions League outings with Copenhagen, 25 Premier League appearances, 29 in LaLiga, 82 in the Premiership, 44 in Croatia (so far) and 52 caps for his country.

And the majority of Rangers supporters screamed fury at this signing.

Sorry guys, we’d listen to McInnes over that opinion.

We know fine well our window hasn’t been outstanding, and we’d question quite a few of our additions this summer. But McKenna is better than any stopper we have by a f*cking mile.

We currently have a guy who struggled with League One Peterborough, a guy who struggled not to get sent off constantly in the MLS and a guy whose Premier League career died in 2024 and has been banded about from loan to loan ever since.

Yeah, McKenna wouldn’t be an upgrade at all…

Don’t get us wrong, no guarantees in football, but the same fans who absolutely murdered Nasser Djiga and regaled the joy of Manny Fernandez don’t strike us as a better source of authority than Derek McInnes.

It’s a pity McKenna and Rangers weren’t to be. Rangers could have done with a strong alpha leftie who knows the league and is experienced at the top levels.

Nah, as Rangers fans react to Scott McKenna, let’s get Makhanya instead.
