Ibrox Noise was intrigued by the initial response to the exit of Mohamed Diomande. We will get to our actual analysis of his departure and time at Rangers in a separate piece. But the initial reaction was very, very intriguing. Once again, it proved the argumentative nature that Rangers fans have these days, and indeed that social media presents.
Ibrox Noise never rated Diomande
Put simply, Ibrox Noise never rated Diomande at all. Initially we hoped for better. But then it became clear that he was an extremely underwhelming player who did not impact matches much, if at all. He was one of those players who didn’t do an awful lot wrong or right. And just did not make an impression.
He had a good turn, we will give him that one. He did turn well on the ball. But had more of a predilection to getting stupid yellow cards and indeed red cards and letting his teammates down.
Overall, a poor player. But the reaction to his exit surprised us in a way that it shouldn’t have. After we were critical of him and presented the fact that we were glad that he had left many fans came in in staunch defence of him and told us we were clowns.
Rangers fans defended Diomande
Put simply, once again, Rangers fans have been gaslit so much by this club over the years. They are willing and more than enthusiastically able to defend subpar players who had no right being in the shirt.
We will have, as we said, an analysis on Dio in due course. But the reality is that a poll later proved the majority of fans by miles are glad that Dio is gone. That any fans would rate the lad and think he contributed anything productive during his 30 months in Govan shows something. It shows how our standards have sunk in places.
Thankfully, as the poll points out, not all. But a portion of Rangers fans really have sunk their own expectations to praise the contribution of someone who contributed very little.
Diomande did not impact Rangers
We don’t wish him the worst or the best. We don’t much care about Dio. He just did not impact at the club at all. But the reaction from some of those fans seems to think that he was something special in our shirt. When he was far from it.
One of the most common things that we saw written about him was that he wasn’t the best but far from the worst. That is among the most damning things anyone can say about a player. That he was just in the middle and a bit of a shoulder shrug.
We would say that is very accurate. And that such a player has such a prominent number of appearances for Rangers for these years says a lot. Particularly for where we’ve been at.
Rangers standards have fallen
He played far too much, given what he didn’t do for Rangers, which was an awful lot. Consequently, Ibrox Noise is glad for Mohamed Diomande exit, and the majority of the fans are too.
But the fact that anyone can defend or indeed outright endorse his contribution does show something. It shows how it really is all about very bizarre opinions.
