Multiple sources have told Ibrox Noise that Couhaib Driouech and the deal to sign him fell apart not just because of an injury he was carrying, but because he pulled the plug as much as the club did.
It has been widely reported the Moroccan winger failed the medical. Subsequently a few ITK Rangers sources have suggested the Polish result had no bearing on that.
We can confirm that isn’t quite true.
Driouech was widely snapped attending the Europa League Third Round qualifier second leg. It’s understood by Ibrox Noise that he backed out of the switch after the boos and the performance.
Rangers already had major doubts over the deal due to his injury, but it is understood it wasn’t the only reason the transfer crashed.
The Moroccan expressed how excited he was at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam to enjoy Ibrox and experience Rangers fans. But the horrendous night in Govan with an abysmal display and even worse result made him think twice as well.
Hearing the fans boo a bad display put the frighteners up the PSV winger. And he decided as much as anything else that the club wasn’t for him.
On top of the knock Rangers found in the medical, and this deal died hard.
He of course, as mentioned, attended the Polish shambles having carried out the medical, and both combined together to put Rangers off completing the deal, and himself likewise.
Couhaib Driouech will now move to find another new club, while Rangers move onto other targets.
