Derek McInnes no longer has Jamestown at Rangers, and it’s killing him

We have kept much of Derek McInnes Jamestown influence to ourselves at Ibrox Noise because we wanted Derek McInnes to succeed. We viewed him as a Rangers man, or a supposed Rangers man. The general consensus holds that he supports Rangers, having played for the club and followed them during childhood.

Ibrox Noise wanted McInnes

However, there are several issues with this notion. We will address those in separate entries.

For now, we will discuss the biggest topic we have kept under wraps for the best part of several months.

We absolutely wanted McInnes, no question. We wanted Del to succeed at this club.

We wanted someone who appeared to be a Rangers man to win, especially as the protégé of the great Walter Smith.

However, there was a massive catch to both his success at Hearts and his abysmal failure thus far at Rangers.

That catch, pure and simple, is Jamestown.

Jamestown transformed several clubs

For those unaware of Jamestown, it is a highly respected and rather secretive football data company.

It handles logistics, statistics and forensic analysis in ways that football has never previously used.

Four or five clubs around the world have famously benefited from its expertise.

Those clubs include USG, otherwise known as Union Saint Gilloise. The club earned promotion from Belgium’s lower leagues for the first time in around 70 years.

Guess what? They are now Belgium’s best team.

Then we have Como in Italy. The club climbed from Serie C with Dennis Wise, Thierry Henry and Cesc Fàbregas behind it.

Before we knew it, Como had reached Europe from Serie A.

Guess who stands behind them? Jamestown.

Then, of course, we have the major example many British supporters know about, the seaside giants Brighton.

People initially credited Graham Potter for their rise. However, the reality was that Jamestown drove their impact.

Brighton are now regarded as one of the Premier League’s best run clubs. They have reportedly made £250M through sales during single transfer windows.

Last but most pertinently to this discussion, we have Tony Bloom’s Hearts.

Guess who is behind Jamestown? Yes, Tony Bloom.

Rangers do not have Jamestown

Everyone knew that McInnes operated as head coach at Hearts. However, guess what Rangers do not have? Jamestown.

Derek McInnes took Hearts close to the Premiership title. They only failed on the final day following considerable bad luck, to say the least.

However, he does not have Jamestown at Rangers and is credited as manager.

In reality, he remains a head coach with the same level of influence as Danny Rohl. He is manager in name only.

The fact is that he does not have Jamestown or Tony Bloom behind him this season.

He does not benefit from their data analysis, which is far superior to anything Rangers possess.

We saw Vanja Dragojević at right back. It made us wonder what on earth McInnes was doing at Ibrox.

That Hibs defeat continues ringing in our ears. It potentially demonstrated that McInnes does not have a clue what he is doing.

Has Jamestown’s absence exposed McInnes?

As Walter Smith’s protégé, we expected McInnes to follow the great man’s philosophies. We expected to see similarly efficient winning.

Instead, we have seen absolute garbage.

Simply put, Derek McInnes is now worse than Russell Martin. At least Russell Martin was winning, even if those victories came in Europe.

Derek McInnes has lost two consecutive matches. He has looked crestfallen, clueless, devoid of ideas and absolutely out of his depth.

Has Derek McInnes Jamestown influence and losing Jamestown exposed the coach he really is? It is possible.

When we saw the team’s shape against Hibs, our hearts sank. We could not even remotely comprehend what we were watching.

The same applied against Bialystok and Dundee United.

We simply do not know what this guy is doing. All the support and hope we had in McInnes has disappeared to nothing.

We are not calling for the sack. However, Rangers are currently going absolutely nowhere except backwards.
