This next one is painful to describe, especially given how much Ibrox Noise wanted Derek McInnes as the new Rangers manager. We strongly endorsed this choice and felt the good Rangers vibe returning to Govan. However Derek McInnes now has the worst win record of any Rangers manager in history.
Rangers scraped two friendly wins
Naturally, Rangers played several friendlies during the summer. They managed to scrape 4 victories, 3 in closed-door bounce matches against diddies.
The final one came through two fortuitous penalties against Saint Étienne at Ibrox.
That represents Derek McInnes’ winning record thus far. Rangers drew against every other team before suffering his first defeat in Poland.
So his win ratio is fine if we include friendlies. Of course, if we exclude them, his win ratio is 0%.
We are not sure how to frame that….
McInnes has no competitive wins
Of course, only two competitive matches have passed. We know the “give him a chance ffs” brigade will already be out. We’re far from carrying the pitchforks ourselves.
As Ibrox Noise has said, we are not judging yet. These are early days and we do not want to draw conclusions.
However, we will report facts. Ibrox Noise will always report the facts, regardless of whether we love or loathe the manager.
We support Derek McInnes. However, he is not making life easy for himself if these decisions belong to him.
Thus far, his competitive win rate stands at 0%. Two matches have produced no wins.
Across all matches, Rangers have played 9 and won 4. But none in serious matches.
If McInnes does not start winning those ones soon, he will already face serious trouble.
Rangers have become even worse
Ibrox Noise already knew this would be a painful season. We completely accepted that Rangers probably would not win 56.
This was always going to be a transitional campaign. However, Rangers are not even doing the basics correctly.
We cannot see the slightest hint of the right path. We do not even expect progress right now.
However, we did not expect Rangers to become even worse.
The team must at least move sideways and stem last season’s bleeding before making progress. McInnes’ era is not even achieving that.
The starting teams selected in Poland and at Tannadice certainly did not help matters.
Two Ibrox matches bring fresh pressure
What will help McInnes, of course, is that the next two matches will both take place at Ibrox.
Some might say that this could actually hinder him. All the pressure will now fall on his back and the team’s.
We know how quickly Ibrox turns when things do not go our way.
However, Rangers will have home advantage in the second leg against Białystok. They will also face Hibs at Ibrox before then.
Those matches could potentially produce a victory. We would certainly hope Rangers can win at least one of them.
However, given how the team is playing, we would not guarantee anything.
