So as we all know Youssef Chermiti is out for a season. At least a season, after the Portuguese striker was confirmed with an ACLI.
These can take 18 months to heal and the player is rarely the same again.
Might turn him into a half-decent striker in this case!
Yes, we’re allied with many Rangers fans who wouldn’t have wished injury on the boy, but are more than happy he won’t play again this season.
Chermiti has been a ghastly waste of £11M. Anyone saying anything else is just being a happy clapper because he has. His numbers look better on paper than he did on the pitch, and we’re not going to buy into any nonsense about missing him.
That we rejected the bid of £22M for him is some of the most shortsighted nonsense we’ve ever seen from a Rangers board. The arrogance to expect more has blown up in their faces amid this injury.
Echoes of a certain ex-Rangers board who rejected £16.5M for Alfredo Morelos only to lose him for nothing at the end of his deal certainly ring true right now.
Nothing changes with idiots at the steering wheel.
But back to the main point – what now?
Well, we’re not going to miss him much on the pitch, but he was still Rangers’ main striker, regardless of how rubbish he was at being one.
But it leaves Lawrence Shankland, Ryan Naderi and Bojan Miovski as Rangers’ strikers.
That is a completely shocking selection of hitmen.
Shanks hasn’t got going, we admit that. He’s been totally average and he’s already been dropped.
Naderi is utter mince and couldn’t score a tee.
And Bojan is a bit of a finisher but lacks the mental strength to cope with playing for Rangers.
In short, we’re absolutely desperate.
The injury to Chermiti has made a completely horrible forward line even more horrible. The less options there are, the less flexibility.
Not a single Rangers striker has scored this season. Indeed Rangers as a whole have scored just one goal from open play in 3 matches.
It’s safe to say emergency surgery is needed up front with Chermiti out for season and Rangers now have 3+ weeks to find a new striker.
And if the club hints it’s content with the three it has, it’s going to be an even longer season than it already looks like it’s going to be.
