So after yet another season starts with a duff result, it’s time once more for Ibrox Noise’s player and manager ratings.
Who shone, who didn’t, and with Rangers already dropping points, who’s to blame? Here’s your Rangers player ratings v Utd.
Pandur:
Very shaky. Looked nervous, like the grandeur of the club has finally hit him and the pace of the league took him by surprise. Made a bit of a mess of the opening goal, but did make a couple of decent saves otherwise. One claim but lacked much communication with the men in front of him. Was a surprise signing in all fairness but we hope he grows into the gig. 6
Sterling:
His passing could have been tighter, but he mostly kept his side reasonably quiet. He’s not fundamentally a RB but he’s the only guy capable of playing there and for now, he’s passable. 6
Godfrey:
Rotten passing, all at sea a lot here but had the occasional decent interception. No cohesion with Sterling or Fernandez yet. Was removed on 65 minutes – appears to be an injury. Which means Rangers are down to just Manny and the new guy. 5
Fernandez:
Aerially strong and cleared a lot of headers but that was it. No understanding with Godfrey or Rommens, and looked at 6s and 7s as he mostly has for his Rangers career. 5
Rommens:
Probably the most lost we’ve seen him look. There was little overlapping runs and driving forward and he looked perplexed at what he was supposed to be doing. Not awful but probably his worst display as a Ranger. 6
Devlin:
Bright start but it faded and the game soon passed him by. A real lack of that terrier dig once the match started to ebb and flow. 6
Diomande:
The absolute usual from Dio, no impact, does little downright wrong but offers a scant product. Defensively quiet and another one passed this guy by. 5
Aasgaard:
A bright run early on looked like the preseason form was carrying over, but he faded fast and offered very little. Got a lot of the ball but didn’t do much with it. Did neatly put away an excellent equaliser but that was about the lot. 7
Gassama:
We were so frustrated to see this guy start. With a passing level of barely 55% he was his usual wasteful and greedy self, and couldn’t make much happen. Del’s hands maybe were tied here. 4
Naderi:
Barely involved, hardly touched the ball, and it wasn’t the right call to start him. Poor 3
Shankland:
Starved of service, made a bunch of runs but little was picked up. A 76% passing level for a striker is a top return, and shows what he can do, but he needs supply. Provided the ‘assist’ (of sorts) for Aasgaard. 6
Subs:
Chermiti:
Everyone is screaming at the Portuguese for his greed. Could have won Rangers the game with a simple pass but decided to go for the glory himself. Wasteful. 2
Neil:
Not sure we even noticed him on the pitch. Screams of Joe Rothwell as we keep saying. 4
McCrorie:
Was unfortunate with being on as a RW/RM because it’s not his gig any more than RB is. Is poor Ross destined just to be used in positions he struggles with? 4
Curtis:
No impact at all, this was his moment, his big chance to shine and he didn’t make anything of it. 3
Manager:
Derek McInnes put out a rather poor XI, it must be said, and while the first 10 minutes had fans happy with the energy, it faded fast, and the boss struggled to change it. Utd offered more guile and threat and Rangers looked listless. The changes for the second half did give the visitors a bit more impetus, but McInnes fell quite short in most areas here and was summed up when he ranted at Nick Walsh over a corner that wasn’t. He will need to adapt to this gig quick! 5
