It has been confirmed now by Partizan Belgrade boss Saša Ilić that Vanja Dragojević has joined Rangers, with it waiting on paperwork and the full green light to be confirmed. Vanja Dragojevic has joined Rangers at last.
Despite Rangers’ huge reticence on bringing in players before more leave, this is a deal that is set to get over the line in due course.
It could even be announced on Monday.
Speaking to Serbian media prior on the 17th to their opening league match (which they drew), Ilić said:
“Captain Dragojević left us yesterday (16th). I wish him good luck in the next stage of his career. Partizan operates in such a way that you never know what will happen because a great deal depends on outgoing transfers. On the other hand, we know that Partizan are not in a particularly good financial position. However, I hope that a couple of players will arrive in the coming period and strengthen the competition within the squad.”
The deal has been claimed at around £4M by some outlets. Ilić has hinted that Belgrade’s financial situation means they didn’t get full market value for Dragojević. That is closer to £8M.
But with many Scottish-based outlets claiming the deal is done, Derek McInnes will get another midfielder and leader for his squad, with the Hjerto-Dahl situation remaining on the horizon too.
Dragojević is a fine player, of that there is little doubt. Partizan’s weak position means they’ve lost their captain and joint-best asset for a modest fee, and below market value.
Rangers will very much hope Dragojević settles in quick, because boy, do Rangers have a LOT of midfielders now. Vanja Dragojevic has joined Rangers.
Welcome to Rangers Vanja!
