Derek McInnes has as good as confirmed Rangers transfer latest that Rangers are on the verge of deals for Tromsø’s Jens Heahterto Dahl and Partizan Belgrade’s Vanja Dragojević. As Ibrox Noise revealed yesterday, the two are closing in on a double £13M transfer deal from their respective clubs to Rangers. It would admittedly bulk Rangers midfield up even more. As we have said, it is a curious line of transfer inquiry to go on.
Midfield numbers continue to grow
We do know that a great number of the current midfielders are probably not favoured by Derek at present. Connor Barron and Nico Raskin are two who seem quite likely to move on. However, all players remain on the roster. Adding two more midfielders does seem a little curious of a decision.
However, it has been suggested that Raskin is definitely moving on alongside Barron. Those two exits would not only free up slots in midfield, but would also earn significant revenue. Consequently, bringing in two men to replace them immediately is not the worst idea. Those two men will be regarded as absolute first team starters.
Questions remain over squad balance
It still raises the question of the sheer bulk in midfield. Rangers have a lot of midfielders at present. We will be adding two more. As we mentioned, McInnes has dropped the biggest hint that those deals are imminent. They could even be done over the weekend, if not sooner.
Sources close to the club have now claimed that Rangers did NOT fly to Norway to deal with Tromsø’s people and those of Dahl himself but that doesn’t mean the deal isn’t closing in. We do know that advanced negotiations have been confirmed for Partizan’s Dragojević.
Defence still needs attention
Either way, it is a lot more midfielders, yet more, and we do wonder when the defence is actually going to get sorted. We already know that striker is settled and will not be changing. However, Rangers are also thin on the wings and definitely need more talent there.
We do know that dominating and winning a match is about having the midfield and controlling it. Rangers have been bullied in the middle for far too long and far too much. However, as we all know, a team is built around its defence. That is where it starts. At that juncture, Rangers are really lacking at present.
So we will see how things develop over the next 2 weeks before the action starts in earnest against Dundee United on Friday 31st.
