It has been confirmed by the man himself that Václav Černý will not be returning to Rangers. There had been some soft rumours that the former loan Ranger, who at the time was on loan from German side Wolfsburg, would potentially be returning to Ibrox.
Černý focused on Beşiktaş
The winger enjoyed a good time in Govan and became a very popular attacker with the Ibrox faithful. He returned to his parent club. Fans were infuriated at where the money was being spent instead of signing him. His fee would have been around the £6M to £8M mark. Instead, others were secured for that level of cash who did not have anything like the same impact.
However, the man himself, not only retiring from international football after being overlooked by the Czechs for the World Cup, has confirmed that his priority now is the new season with current club Beşiktaş. The simple fact is that he is happy in Turkey. He is happy with his current boss and club. And he will be remaining there to try to deliver a good season for the Turkish giant.
Rangers move looks unlikely
This does not completely close the door on a Rangers transfer. But, of course, Derek McInnes would have to want Černý, and also be willing to bid his market value for him. We do not think Rangers have any interest in Černý at all, and the talk of his return to Rangers was little more than clickbait press tattle.
That said, we were huge fans of Černý at Ibrox Noise. We rated him massively well before fans finally got on board and realised what a talent he actually was.
International retirement and future
But Černý himself is disgusted with his national regime. He believes he should have gone to the World Cup and, with 30 caps under his belt for his country, believes he had something to offer. So he retired from the national side, given the fact that he was overlooked for the big showpiece occasion in the USA.
But as for a return to Rangers, that appears to have had cold water poured on it entirely. He has confirmed his desire to remain with Beşiktaş and have a good season with them going forward. Of course, if Rangers did indeed bid, which we do not believe they will, that might change. But for now, any talk of Černý’s return is completely dead in the water.
