It appears that Nicolas Raskin’s impressive World Cup displays have earned him the choice of clubs that he was dreaming of. As is widely known, Raskin has been wanting away from Rangers for quite a long time. Even if he has been happy at the club, he has been ready for the next step for some considerable period. He has also not been shy about saying so. And Rangers set for Raskin record because of it.
Premier League interest grows
After the initial interest from the likes of Hull City, Real Betis and Villarreal, alongside one or two others such as Atalanta and Inter, there has been a ramping up in the last 24 hours. Premier League giants Manchester United and high PL performers Aston Villa have also taken an interest in the Belgian international. As is widely known, Youri Tielemans is going to Manchester United as well. They could be looking at his own international teammate, Raskin, as his replacement. Then there is Manchester United. Manchester United, of course, are a growing club trying to restore themselves to their former glory. Raskin’s performances at the World Cup have very much alerted the Old Trafford bosses to his availability. Rangers set for Raskin record as a result.
Rangers set for major windfall
This is a potentially gigantic payday for Rangers. The set of clubs seeking Raskin’s signature has now risen considerably, and it has been coming. Raskin has, as we said, made little secret of the fact that he was ready for his next club. That will come this summer and, if Rangers get the numbers they want, he will indeed move on. It is entirely possible that Raskin could be one of the very few Old Firm players to get a direct move from the Old Firm to one of the big six in England. It does not happen very often. Kieran Tierney, of course, went to Arsenal. Some might argue that Tottenham Hotspur are a top six team, even if their fortunes presently are not there. Of course, Alan Hutton went to that club back in the day.
A rare Old Firm pathway
In general, it is very rare for an Old Firm player to end up straight at a top six club in England. That could happen with Manchester United or indeed Aston Villa. Of course, we remember that was where Carlos Cuéllar also went back in the day to the Birmingham giants. As for Raskin, he is almost destined to go to England and get his big move. It will certainly be to a big European club, no matter what.
Rangers can demand top value
The price? Rangers can easily command around £30M for this guy. There is no point in letting him go for pennies when he has clearly shone at the World Cup and is an absolute asset. Even if he wants to leave, he is still one of Rangers’ most lucrative players now and will certainly fetch the big bucks. We will see in time who Raskin finally ends up with.
