So that’s five summer signings officially confirmed, six if you include Allan McGregor. Rangers’ summer work is very much underway in earnest, although no one has actually been sold yet.
The only two official departures are Bailey Rice on loan to Kilmarnock, and the yet-to-be-confirmed exit of Jack Butland to Hull City FC. And yes, we still have content on Butland to arrive.
So the question is, what’s Ibrox Noise’s verdict on the signings thus far?
We bring you a play-by-play verdict on each body who’s come in.
Lawrence Shankland:
Lawrence Shankland is Rangers’ star signing this window thus far, and the former Hearts man will be our main hitman. He will be Rangers’ focal point up front and is ready to score for fun. It’s his dream move. He didn’t pick up a knock at the world cup, and is home now. He will get time off and will arrive for preseason in due course. We are thrilled with this one. 10/10
Ross McCrorie:
A shrewd addition, the flexible former Rangers youth can play three slots – RB, DM, and CB. He knows what Rangers is all about, and only ever wanted to play for us. Rangers needed physical, and he adds that in spades. We are very happy to see him back. 9/10
Ben Godfrey:
We are a little wary of this one. We know what the defender was during his Everton days, but like Max Aarons those days are long gone. He’s not what he was, and all the clubs he was loaned at say ‘avoid’. We hope Rangers turn out to be the right place for him, but it’s a 50/50 which Godfrey we’ll get. It’s a loan, so a wise try before you buy. We hope the boy shines because we do need bodies at the back. 6/10
Ivor Pandur:
The hype machine is out in force over Pandur, but we can’t help a little scepticism over a goalie who’s only ever played at Championship level. Yes he helped Hull get promoted, but Joe Rothwell helped Leeds get promoted apparently. He cost £6M and will be coached by McGregor so we have to trust that this signing is as good as the hype machine reckons. 7/10
Dan Neil:
Sorry, not one we wanted. We’re pretty clear on that. This is a Rohl signing, and was scouted heavily under the ex-manager. Sunderland didn’t want him while they were Premier League and they loaned him out to the Championship. He screams of EFL slop again. Many fans are seeing Rothwell in this guy, and we share that. The hipsters tell us he’s a top signing and will be outstanding at Rangers. We want to be very wrong on him. We back Del all the way and hope he’s nailed this addition. He does want to be at this club, and that desire we do like to see. So hopefully the quality matches up to the urge to join us. 6/10
Allan McGregor:
Not confirmed yet, should be soon, and yeah, he’s not a player of course. But he’s a smart addition and he is a very, very smart boy. We had our scepticism that he wants to be a coach, but clearly he’s agreed to it and misses the day-to-day of Rangers. Hopefully he can help Ivor Pandur handle the pressure in the most demanding goal in Scotland. 10/10
There will be more to come, but that’s the summer’s lot so far.
