If there is one thing that Ibrox Noise and Derek McInnes are completely agreed on, it is getting rid of the EFL slop era from Rangers and bringing our club back. The appointment of Allan McGregor as goalkeeping coach is just the latest stage in restoring the club that Rangers fans want. We cannot immediately know how good Rangers are going to be. We cannot know for sure that 56 is coming back next season or the season after that. However, starting with restoring the soul of the club is a guaranteed success in the minds of fans at the very least.
Restoring the soul
We needed to feel like our club was actually being run by Rangers people for Rangers. With the return of McGregor, that is certainly continuing along the same lines. We will have more on the exit of Scott Fry in due course, not to mention Sal Bibbo. However, for now, the exit of the rubbish and the return or arrival of quality is definitely one that we can only endorse.
McInnes clearly wants to bring back the soul of the club that he supports. The owners are of the same mind to give the club what it should be. Of course, Jim Gillespie as CEO is very much one of us. He is involved with every executive decision that the club makes. He clearly wants to bring Rangers back and did so with Derek McInnes. And he is also doing so with McGregor. He is overseeing what we need to see from our club.
What Rangers lost
Rangers lost so much soul. Not just the late, great Jimmy Bell, and not just the late, great Walter Smith. So much of the core underneath the club was simply ripped and torn away. Sadly, much of it was endorsed by hipster Rangers fans who would back any old slop coming into our club.
It is why Ibrox Noise was so negative for the best part of seasons, when we felt like our club was nothing more than a mercenary hellhole filled with slop that had no right to be there.
Blue nose soul returns
However, today we see Rangers minded people coming back or arriving. They know what it takes. They know what this club should be, and they actually support and care about Rangers. That is a huge difference and a massive distinction.
So much of the mercenary rubbish did not. It could not have cared less. However, now with McGregor, McInnes, Gillespie and so many more, it feels like a little bit of Blue Nose soul has finally arrived back in Govan, where it should be.
