As per yesterday’s announcement, Rangers have entirely sold off £16M worth of shares. The issue was completed to 100% and that gives Derek McInnes a full £16M of guaranteed funds base level.
You won’t be stunned to hear Ibrox Noise snapped up more shares as well, increasing our holding in the company. We highly doubt there’s a single shareholder or season ticket holder on any of the supposed Rangers news sites we ‘compete’ with.
What does this mean?
Exactly what it says on the tin.
The 49ers Enterprises cannot put their hands in their pockets to fund all transfer activity. Such an action falls foul of FFP and regulations governing fair play policy. If this wasn’t an issue the Arabs would have signed every top player for PSG or Man City.
As such, the club has to be able to sustain, and share issues are an excellent way to do that.
Anyone can register to buy shares, become a shareholder. The one slight issue is as a private limited company Rangers do not have to bow to their shareholders in the same way. They don’t have to hold AGMs and fans/shareholders do not have the power to vote directors in or out as a legal obligation.
Legal Obligations
Rangers can choose to offer ‘elections’ but they are not legally obligated any more.
But the most important part is they are putting their money where their mouths are.
They dumped £36M+ in the last two windows, but can’t keep doing that. Hence this £16M issue is vital to supplement revenue.
It is a clean £16M for Derek McInnes to invest in players. Rangers have thus far spent a modest £3M (net) on Ivor Pandur, and around £1M on Ross McCrorie. That’s £4M. They have sold Butland for £3M meaning Pandur did not cost the full £6M but that is what the outlay will still say. £7M total.
And now that £16M is in play, Rangers have something to work with.
As we said before, the likes of Lewis Ferguson are affordable but not viable. We can’t splurge that kind of cash on one player, it’s not manageable.
But we will see in the coming weeks what other ‘paid for’ transfers arrive, with all of Rangers’ incoming aside McCrorie and Pandur being freebies or loans.
