Rangers manager Derek McInnes has indeed confirmed that the target by July 31 is to have three new signings on the dot. That is to say, Rangers hope to have three new men in the building by the time Rangers travel to Tannadice. McInnes makes transfer declaration that Rangers fans need.
Two names are close
We know two of the names that are closest. One is certainly Vanja Dragojević. That one still isn’t quite over the line yet.
The second one would be the talked-about Jens Hjertø-Dahl. The Norwegian has been a big deal at Tromsø and Rangers fans are very much hoping he will arrive.
There had been speculation that Cardiff City had offered what Tromsø want for the midfielder. However, time will tell if that one takes place after all.
A possible third signing
We do not know who the third man would be. However, we know that Philadelphia Union’s Olwethu Makhanya did not show up for pre-season training after Rangers had been linked with him.
There had been inquiries made about him, but we don’t know if Rangers actually pursued the boy. However, he didn’t show up for pre-season training after returning from South Africa’s World Cup campaign.
We will see if he is a new defender that Rangers desperately need. Boy, is the team short of defenders.
Departures remain unresolved
There still remains no news on the departures of either Danilo or John Souttar. Neither of them, of course, was involved in the Saint-Étienne clash.
However, in terms of incomings, McInnes hopes to have those three bodies in by Tannadice.
Things have gone very silent on Rangers’ acquisitions ever since Cammy Devlin. There have been no further additions of late.
It is obvious, of course, as we’ve mentioned, how much more is required. Rangers need to reach a state of readiness for the new season.
Major matches are approaching
Not only, of course, do United appear on July 31, but Rangers then have the Europa League against Jagiellonia Białystok in August.
Therefore, the massive matches start to kick in in just over a week. This is when it really does get intense.
The stuff needs to happen on the transfer front to get Rangers more ready for this level of competition. At the moment, of course, we aren’t.
Hopefully, as McInnes makes transfer declaration Del gets his wish and gets the three new bodies in because, clearly, we need them.
