Rangers manager Derek McInnes has finally addressed the Nico Raskin speculation. He effectively confirmed that Rangers are awaiting the Belgian’s departure. In the worst kept secret at Ibrox, Nico Raskin Rangers transfer almost certainly lies away from Govan.
Raskin receives an extended break
The manager admitted that his midfielder is taking an extended break following his exploits at the World Cup. However, there was also more than a hint that his future lies elsewhere.
Derek McInnes has to be careful with his wording. He is abundantly clear and abundantly aware that Raskin’s future is not in Govan. However, when asked if Raskin would feature on the opening day, he more or less confirmed that Raskin is departing.
McInnes expects an early absence
He essentially inferred this by admitting that Raskin would be unlikely to feature during the early part of the season. This is as close as we can get to the manager confirming Raskin is gone.
However, he offered one big admission, which we will explain in a separate article. That was a crucial part, and we will explain it later.
For now, he has confirmed that he expects interest in Raskin and expects him to depart. The only caveat concerned what would happen if Rangers did not receive a satisfactory bid. McInnes would then be pleased to have another good player in midfield.
Rangers await the right offer
Raskin, of course, went extensively far in the World Cup, making it to the quarter finals. He also played his part at that stage.
He has received the full three weeks off. However, the midfielder is keener on finding his transfer to the next stop in his career.
Whether Rangers receive the offer they want, time will tell. However, Derek McInnes has now more or less confirmed that he expects that to happen.
Raskin staying appears unlikely
There would be a low chance of Raskin staying. However, if that happens, by his own testimony McInnes would be pleased to have him in the squad.
He will know as well as anybody else that Raskin would not be happy at Ibrox beyond 3 September. However, time will tell exactly what happens and when he finally gets the offer that he wants.
McInnes, though, has finally confirmed that Nico Raskin Rangers transfer is on the cards.
