Rangers’ chances of securing Lewis Ferguson took a huge leap forward after confirmation a player swap deal is potentially in the offing.

It has been revealed that Bologna 100% want Connor Barron. While Derek McInnes rates Barron, it’s deemed he’d be willing to use his former Aberdeen charge as a makeweight.

Bologna have been interested in Barron for many seasons. They previously are said to have made their move when Barron switched to Ibrox. Unfortunately it wasn’t the right time for him.

He has remained on their watch list and it’s understood a deal for Ferguson, while still tricky, could be possible with Barron going the other way.

It’s widely-known that Ferguson’s pricetag is upwards of £20M, but Barron is viewed by the club as around £5M market value, meaning he as well as a big sell-on clause and bonus payments could make this deal manageable.

Bologna definitely want Barron, and Rangers definitely want Ferguson.

Both clubs will work together to try to thrash out a deal where everyone gets what they want.

The big caveat is that Barron is open the move. It is understood he is. He’s happy at Ibrox but is willing to move to Italy and try his luck in the big league.

As we know, Serie A clubs have a huge soft spot for Scottish players the past decade and many have gone there and flourished.

Barron may well be the latest, with Ferguson getting the move he wants as well.
