Ibrox Noise understands the former Rangers youth player and Aberdeen man, Lewis Ferguson, is open to the move to Rangers. And indeed, his uncle, Barry Ferguson, has confirmed it. In a recent column for his newspaper, the former Rangers captain confirmed that Ferguson is eager to join Rangers. But he would say no more about the entire transfer because it is Ferguson’s job and Ferguson’s position to make his own decisions for himself.
A major decision awaits
Lewis Ferguson does have a choice to make. Does he join a top five league and a bigger club from Bologna in Serie A? Or does he follow his heart and his family and join Rangers, almost certainly as captain? It does seem to be written in the stars that Ferguson will join Rangers. The problem is, of course, the logistics as we have discussed elsewhere. But we know that Ferguson himself wants the move.
Italy or Ibrox?
He is a bit torn over it. That is to say, his family and he are settled in Italy, and he has embraced the culture there. Learned the language. There were rumours in recent windows of the likes of Inter and Juventus making moves for him, and he would have been happy with that switch. Those transfers, of course, did not take place, and he remains at Bologna. He is, however, happy in Italy, as we have mentioned. A move to one of the big Italian sides would not be out of the question.
Rangers have their own appeal
But, of course, the issue of coming home comes into play. While Rangers do not have the Champions League next season, there is the Derek McInnes, the Lawrence Shankland, the Ross McCrorie, and the everything angle that is Rangers, enticing Lewis Ferguson to come back if a deal can be done. Quite simply, he is torn and is simply waiting to see what hard offers come into play.
We know for a fact that Rangers have reached out to Bologna to get the lay of the land regarding the price. That a deal has not happened yet does suggest that Rangers are hugely struggling to make it happen. But Ferguson himself is open to the move. He is also open to that top five league move as well.
The dream remains alive
His family, of course, would love him to come back to Rangers. To, as they say, reach his destiny and become Rangers captain and be at home. It does seem to fit the stars aligning. But that does not mean it is going to happen. It depends on so many factors, as we said. Financial, logistical, and of course emotional on the player’s part himself.
But at the base level, we know that he does at some point in his career definitely want to return to Rangers to play. Whether that can be this summer, we just do not know. And at the moment, neither does Lewis Ferguson himself.
