Former Scotland and Chelsea star Pat Nevin believes this is the best place Rangers have been in for a long time, and it’s thanks to Derek McInnes.
This is the best place Rangers have been for a long time and Celtic fans will be worried about them – I was sat next to Derek McInnes in Boston when he was about to get the Rangers job.
Speaking to Betano, he said:
This is the best place Rangers have been for a long time. I kind of liked what they did last season. The manager brought them from disaster at the start of the season, a horrendous start to the season.
It was a shock when Danny Rohl left. And the Rangers fans were upset until they found out who was replacing him. And Derek McInnes, again, once again, the absolute epitome of a no brainer.
If you can attract Derek, you get Derek McInnes. So, funnily enough, the day it was happening, I was sitting beside him at a party in Boston. I mean, I say a party, a Scottish Tartan Army party in Boston!
It’s mental. And the whole world was talking about Derek and I’m sitting with Derek and I’m thinking there’s only one question everyone wants to ask him and I’m not going to ask him. Because I knew he would take the job. I just knew he would take it.
Because you can’t not take it. And it’s a shame though because at Hearts it was brilliant, he’d done so well, he’d built it. But there’s only a certain amount you can build on that money.
He goes to Rangers and they’ve got an absolutely brilliant manager. If he was available he would be the next Scotland manager. But he’s not. He’s gone to Rangers.
So that’s a great decision. Lawrence Shankland and all that. Fabulous decision. On top of that, don’t ignore Cammy Devlin. That’s pretty special. He’s pretty special for Scottish football. What he’s going to add as well.
So all the decisions so far are all excellent and if you are Celtic fans you will be less concerned about Hearts and you’re actually looking back at Rangers now.
