As Ibrox Noise reported to you some days ago, Danilo is on the verge of a move to Botafogo in Brazil. Many outlets in the UK claimed that he would be heading to a European side, namely a Greek or Cypriot side, and indeed potentially a Dutch one. But Ibrox Noise reported to you some considerable time ago that it would be Botafogo. Danilo Rangers exit confirmed has indeed now just about taken place.

Loan with option

However, there is a big catch to this deal, which is unfortunately related to a footnote we left in a previous article about the parasite. Unfortunately for Rangers, this is only a loan with option. Botafogo can clearly see that Danilo is damaged goods. Just like any club, Danilo is not guaranteed to succeed at his loan club. The option to buy is their security if he does not work out. It is the very thing Rangers should have done with Bojan Miovski. We were very much in endorsement of Rangers doing this regarding Ben Godfrey. Loan with option is try before you buy. It is outstanding business for the side taking the player. It is not such good business for the one trying to ship the player out. That is why Rangers got the good side of the deal when it came to Godfrey.

The Rangers risk

With Danilo, sadly, this is not the best outcome. The one good side is that Rangers will not be paying all of his wages next season. We cannot know exactly what percentage Botafogo will be taking. However, the £40,000 a week will not all be on Rangers’ payroll. The big problem is exactly what could happen at NEC Nijmegen. That is to say that Danilo could fail miserably to impress and simply be sent back. That is a very strong possibility. He was all for the move to Holland, only for it not to work out because he was not very good. Consequently, it is the same risk at Botafogo.

A return home

The chance that returning to his homeland might help is there. Being back in his natural surroundings may help him succeed better because it is back to where it all started. He will also hope to get his move to Corinthians should this spell at Botafogo work out.

The Ancelotti connection

Botafogo also has another caveat with a Rangers link. Their former manager was once heavily linked with the Rangers job. Davide Ancelotti left Real Madrid along with his father. He then went alone to become a manager in his own right and failed diabolically at Botafogo. Ibrox Noise was heavily against the potential of bringing him in as Rangers manager. He was a complete rookie who did not even know what he was doing. It did not work out in South America.

We hope Danilo’s loan spell there goes a lot better for the Brazilian and that the deal is made permanent with a purchase. Otherwise, it is just another waste of time for Rangers, even if the club will save cash on his wages. It is a disappointing outcome. However, it shows how much damaged goods Danilo is and that this is the best deal Rangers can actually get for the Brazilian in trying to get shot of him. Danilo Rangers exit confirmed. We will see how that loan goes.
