Rangers winger Ross McCausland could be about to get an incredible move. Portuguese top-flight side Casa Pia are confirmed as making an enquiry about his availability.

Long-listed on what is now called any club’s ‘bomb squad’, Rangers winger Ross McCausland is surplus at Govan and won’t be playing any role in the club going forward.

But Casa Pia are interested. That could have the (former) Northern Ireland international up against Porto, Benfica and Sporting in the Primeira Liga.

The one small catch is Casa Pia avoided relegation last season by the smallest of margins, so this is not a marquee-level club.

But McCausland switching the Premiership for Portugal’s top league is quite the upgrade if we’re honest.

In fact, there’s no competition there.

Naturally Casa Pia are a much smaller club than Rangers whose stadium holds a tiny 6,000. But the league standard is a different world and the 23-year-old really would be landing on his feet with that move.

This one was reported by Sky Sports’ Anthony Joseph, a Scottish reporter who’s risen to prominence this window.

Indeed, he claims McCausland would be looking at a permanent deal.

Clearly Casa Pia see something we don’t.

If he gets this move, absolutely good luck to him.

At that level of competition it’ll either make or break him.

PS: ‘bomb squad’ is the new term this summer for a chunk of player who are unwanted by their clubs and are surplus. Clinton Nsalia, McCausland, Jose Cifuentes, Danilo and Nedim Bajrami are seen as some of Rangers’ incumbents of that dubious honour.
