Rangers are one of several clubs interested in Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson. Ibrox Noise can confirm however the stopper’s biggest suitor is Wolves with Wolves front-runners for his signature.
Sources close to the Stadium of Light explained that while Rangers’ have eyeballs on the ‘keeper, it is Wolves who are making the biggest push towards him.
Our understanding from his point of view is he is entirely open-minded to his next club. This is with it clear he won’t be first choice at Sunderland next season.
We are told he doesn’t have a preference at this stage, and is awaiting his options to become clearer.
Wolves of course are a Championship club now and will be pushing to leap back to England’s top flight at the first opportunity.
West Ham are also credited with an interest in Patterson, and Rangers’ name is most definitely being linked too.
It calls Jack Butland’s Rangers prospects into question with Rangers taking notable interest in Patterson. But it’s early days in the window (it technically hasn’t opened yet) and there’s time for situations to evolve.
We are aware of Nottingham Forest’s interest in Butland. While the former England goalie is happy at Ibrox, he’s also open to a return to the Premier League.
Rangers’ position between the sticks used to be a source of great pride, with some true legends in there.
These days it’s a little less reliable and Butland maybe hasn’t won over all fans this past season the way he did the first campaign.
Rangers definitely seek a solid and permanent solution in that jersey and whether it’s Anthony Patterson or not, the situation requires resolution. But Wolves front-runners for Patterson.
More as we get it.
