Ibrox Noise was very interested in Rangers fan views on the exit of Danny Rohl. The German coach has now officially departed Govan and taken up his place at Red Bull Salzburg.
But Ibrox Noise was curious how Rangers fans felt about his departure.
We carried out a qualitative straw poll, asking fans just to express their views.
We were not surprised when a great number of them were sad about his exit, and believed he’d pulled Rangers back into a title race.
They felt he’d come undone at the end, but that he was a decent guy and they wished him well.
Our View
Ibrox Noise, you won’t be stunned to hear, did not share this view.
Rangers, for clarity, were 6th when Rohl took over. He took us to third.
We’re not sure we’d agree he ‘brought us back to the top’, when at no point did Rangers ever top the league under him.
Three slots up the way in the league was him ‘pulling us back into the title race’ and for Ibrox Noise, that’s falling way way short.
New Manager Bounce
Let’s not forget that Rangers only had to win a few matches in October for the team to advance from 6th to third. Does Rohl deserve credit for new manager bounce?
Doesn’t every manager get that? Indeed, the only boss who didn’t was Martin, who was a fail on every level at Ibrox.
Rohl is only saved from being Rangers’ worst-ever permanent manager by not being Martin.
Once Rangers were third only briefly did we ‘ascend’ to second, and that was thanks to Celtic falling to pieces under Wilfried Nancy. Then stumbling under successor Martin O’Neill.
Celtic were utter mince this past season, and Rohl couldn’t even get past that.
Deserving
Hearts deserved the title, full stop, and ran out of puff at the worst time.
But Rohl gets no credit from Ibrox Noise at all. He doesn’t deserve any. Rohl handled the job horrendously, behaved with little dignity or grace, bit on journo bait and treated his players terribly.
He couldn’t adapt in matches, he was arrogant, and his immaturity shone through repeatedly. Ibrox Noise would have distanced ourselves from the club had he remained in charge for the new season.
For those illusion reasons of believing he took us from bottom to the title race, some Rangers fans give him far more affection than he deserves. And they are allowed to feel how they want to feel about Rohl, and Ibrox Noise won’t dictate otherwise.
But we will not sit here and fawn over a toxic failure we didn’t want in the first place. One who disgraced the manager dugout just like far too many of his predecessors.
Absolute good riddance to bad rubbish and we wish him zero success whatsoever. Salzburg have done us a wonderful, wonderful favour and while we have nothing against them at all, we look forward to them crashing under him.
