With so much feel good factor surrounding Rangers at the moment, the return of Derek McInnes is a perfect addition to all that seems to be going well now for Rangers, both on and off the park. Of course, on the park is an unknown quantity at this point, but we are seeing bright lights to that nature, and we can only hope that they continue. But one thing Ibrox Noise has not really as yet discussed is the conduct of the chairman. Andrew Cavenagh is a very silent part of all of this. And, of course, he has played a huge role in what has shaped and changed in Govan. The Andrew Cavenagh secret is out.
The Chairman’s Masterstroke
Andrew Cavenagh, of course, released that statement and gave that interview fully backing the former manager, Danny Rohl. Initially, Ibrox Noise, like many, was fooled by the intention entirely! Only for us to really realise quickly what the chairman was actually doing. And he absolutely nailed it. He got the compensation for Rohl and got him off his hands, plus getting the manager everybody actually wanted.
And that is the point that Ibrox Noise is about to allude to in this piece.
Andrew Cavenagh did something that no other Rangers board member has really done in as long as we can remember:
He spoke to the fans.
There were so many occasions last season where Cavenagh was seen among the fans. He was actually talking to supporters and listening to them.

Listening To The Supporters
While he came out in the press and backed Rohl, he was clearly listening quietly to what fans were telling him. There is no question that Derek McInnes’s name would have come up quite a few times in there. The Andrew Cavenagh secret is quite obvious.
We do know that Steven Gerrard was Cavenagh’s own personal preference based on box office, but the man wants Rangers to succeed, not just for his own pocket. Of course, he has financial investment in Rangers, but because he wants Rangers to succeed. It is a passion project for him and he is very much in this for the long run.
He has taken Rangers on and he wants us to succeed.
With fans advising him that Derek McInnes was who they wanted, he clearly listened. This is a big departure for Rangers fans to deal with, a board that is actually listening to them.
A Different Kind Of Boardroom
Yes, we are well aware that AGMs have technically been canned because the company is not a PLC anymore. They are no longer a legal obligation, but we fans do still have shares. We still have voting rights within more limited parameters as a private limited company.
Consequently, Cavenagh is listening to Rangers fans in a way that others have not. Rangers fans are getting a say in the running of the club, or more importantly, are getting a say in advising the chairman what they want. The Andrew Cavenagh secret is clear.
Of course, we know that generally speaking, Joe Punter does not exactly know what he wants half the time and the majority view does not always prove the correct view. But when you analyse the views alongside the actual data and performance, and everything matches up, then you have your answer.
And this is why McInnes was chosen.
The Right Call For Rangers
Andrew Cavenagh, and indeed Jim Gillespie with his wise word in the chairman’s ear, offered the right solution based on what Rangers needed.
With Cavenagh in there, chatting to Rangers fans and getting the views of the supporters who are putting the money where their mouths are, the chairman was listening to them.
He was listening to them and he was listening to his CEO. He made the right call in getting the man that everybody wanted.
Sure, there are one or two sceptics. There are indeed one or two Rangers fans who are dubious about this appointment. We are not really interested in their view. Sorry, but they were not really interested in our view when we opposed Danny Rohl.
So we are not really interested in their view if they are critical of Derek McInnes.
At the end of the day, Rangers have the manager that we needed. We needed Derek McInnes and he is the right man.
And at last, we have a chairman who is listening to Rangers fans and takes their views into consideration.
Working so far isn’t it!
