Ibrox Noise sources understand that Rangers’ reported interest in KVC Westerlo right back Bryan Reynolds is real.
As we have discussed in previous entries, with the loss of James Tavernier, the injury issues surrounding Dujon Sterling, and of course the loan end of Max Aarons, Rangers have nobody at right back at the moment.
This is a position that is case critical, and going into next season, as things stand, it will just be the injury prone Sterling as an option in that slot.
Enter Reynolds
Enter Reynolds.
The KVC Westerlo right back has over 100 appearances in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League and consequently is regarded as a decent talent for the slot.
His market value is nothing spectacular, around about £3M, but he has been a regular in the Belgian top flight for quite some time and has been a fairly thriving player at that level.
But then, so was Andreas Skov Olsen, and he died a painful death at Rangers.
The Westerlo Connection
The reason, of course, for Westerlo is a big hand towards Tuur Rommens.
Rangers’ left back has been absolutely outstanding in the second half of the season.
An outstanding acquisition from the same club, Rangers’ Belgian under 21 full back has shone like a beacon, invoking memories of Arthur Numan in exactly the same slot.
Rangers are hoping that at right back, Reynolds can be just as similar as Rommens.
Westerlo are a very solid Jupiler Pro League team, consequently getting another player from that market might not be the worst move when it comes to the success that we see from Rommens.
A Potential Solution
Overall, Reynolds is indeed a USA international and his potential to arrive in Govan could be an answer, at least one, for the right back slot vacancy.
He is a potential answer to what Rangers have been needing there, but he would only be part of the picture.
Rangers definitely need more than just one.
If it is to be him and Sterling going forward, we still do not feel that that would be enough.
Replacing Tavernier
But if Reynolds is robust enough, he could well be the answer to the replacement of James Tavernier that Rangers are now seeking.
